New compact drive for screw presses
New compact drive for screw presses
CMG drive from Harburg-Freudenberger saves space, time and money
Hamburg-Harburg - Efficient, powerful, compact and safe - these are the principal advantages of the new CMG drive for the high-performance screw presses from Harburg-Freudenberger. The new transmission drive for the world’s leading manufacturer of machines for the mechanical extraction of oil seeds is so compact that it can be supplied as a complete unit flanged onto the screw press. This saves time when commissioning the press and reduces the space required at the production location.
Quick installation and commissioning
The innovative electric hollow-shaft drive has made it possible for the very first time to integrate motor, transmission and thrust bearing of the screw press inside the machine body without any compromise. This has also eliminated the necessary separate drive motor foundation together with the time-consuming installation of the V-belt transmission.
Space saving and quiet
Jens Schulz, Technical Director of the Edible Oil Division of Harburg-Freudenberger, is well aware of the specific customer requirements: “Little space is available in the production halls of oil mills. It has become very cramped and operating noise levels are high as more and more machines are added to cope with the increased demand for pressed oil due to the bio-diesel boom. We have therefore developed a drive that not only saves space but is also much quieter.”
Protected against overload
According to Jens Schulz present-day high production volumes require new solutions. To fulfil the high demand for plant based energy resources the screw presses are operating at most locations at maximum capacity around the clock. This is where protection against overloading is of high significance. The new CMG drive features a new mechanical overload coupling that replaces the common shear pins. Furthermore, special electrical controls in addition to optional frequency inverters ensure that the screw press shafts can be reversed to relieve pressure, yet can be restarted without having to open the press for material discharge.
Interface to existing equipment
Customers who order a new installation are not the only ones to benefit from the advantages of the new drive. Existing installations from Harburg-Freudenberger can be retrofitted with the new drive which develops a maximum motor power of up to 530 KW to ensure the optimal performance of all screw press models. Harburg-Freudenberger will be presenting this new drive, together with the very latest screw press technology, to the general public at the Leipzig IGRUMA Trade Fair from 3 May to 06 May 2007.
World-wide success
Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH with a workforce of 1,100 worldwide is one of the leading mechanical engineering and service companies in the fields of edible oil technology, rubber compounding and rubber processing. With production plants in three countries (Germany, Croatia and the USA) and representative offices throughout the world, the company last year generated sales of approx. EUR 200 million.
